Go Big or Go Home Questions: Justifying, Clarifying, and Explaining

I received this lovely nugget courtesy of . Like most great pieces of information it stopped me in my tracks and made me think or rather question. How often have I justified, clarified, or explained myself? “Plenty o’ times” was my answer.

Then it dawned on me, if I am truly being my authentic self and if all my actions are coming from that place of authenticity (or heart), there is no need to clarify. There is no need to explain. There is no need to justify. It is when I come from that place that I am most confident.

Here is the Go Big or Go Home question (rather questions); when was the last time you felt the need to justify, clarify, or explain yourself away? Who where you being at the time?

Happy pondering and awareness creating!

This is stopping me in my tracks as well. I'm not sure what to think yet (too tired to think...lol), but to answer the question, the last time I felt the need to justify, clarigy, or explain myself away was when I was backed into a corner and asked for clarification and explanation by someone else. I am not sure I see it as self-serving, but I will think about it.

Thanks for the challenge. :)

The last time I explained or justified myself I was trying to impress somebody with my first film. I had complete faith and praise in what I'd accomplished, but I felt the other person would see mediocrity all over it. I spent a good deal of time explaining why and how I did certain things and how many hundreds of ways I could've made the film better.

Lesson: I'd ruined his first exposure and impression of my work. If there was a chance he could've enjoyed my work, my 'explanation' dumped water at it. Fortunately, he knew where I was coming from and paid no mind to my babbling.

Which, in turn, goes back to what you were saying, Pam, and that is, I wasn't "truly being my authentic self"

Emon and Lynne, thank you both so much for sharing your thoughts. There definitely is a time and a place for having to explain -- most certainly. Emon, as you pointed out with your great awareness, we do often find ourselves explaining when we come from a place of insecurity.

As I was reading both of your comments, I was reminded of the saying, "It is none of my business what other people think of me." Something else to ponder, perhaps?

Awesome dialog -- thank you both!!

I often feel like I need to justify myself - mostly because I think I am worried that I might ultimately fail at what I am doing, thus I am trying to give myself an 'out'... Though I don't think I usually go into any justification. I rather think "I don't need to explain myself." and just continue on my way.

Personal Development, welcome to Make the Most of U. Great awareness and kudos for moving through the feeling to justify. It is so easy to get caught in the "what if" trap. Well done for not allowing it to stop you from what you want to do.

Hope you stop by again to share more of your great insights.
